Meeting started at 7pm. David made announcements regarding seminars at Avalon first, and then we proceeded to discuss the 6th house. The information presented was exciting. Everyone contributed to the meeting. The conversation was lively and warm. Lots of laughter and sharing.
Members present: David, Fei, Susan, Sophia, Melodye, Stuart, Gary, and Gina.
We missed the others! I hope you guys can attend our next meeting. The next meeting is moved to the last Wednesday of the month, June 28, due to classes going at Avalon in the 3rd week of June.
David started by asking who would like to do the monitoring of the meeting. He stated jokingly that he likes being next to the computer that is why he always sits at the front. Everyone laughed which started the laughter in the room the entire meeting J
6th House:
Work, health, and service. We analyzed why this is so. We started by analyzing what it is that we do in the 6th house when it comes to work: it is our daily work or routine. It is not specifically a job but the practical work we do is necessary for our lives to be functional. For example, the upkeep of everything such as, taking care of the plumbing, our cars, our health, our homes - making sure that everything is functioning and working correctly.
Health; in a way that we have to take care of ourselves, eating to receive correct nourishment for our bodies, exercise, developing the awareness of what your body needs to live healthy. Because in the 6th house our main focus is the daily work and routine and things to do and to get done, we tend to forget ourselves, we tend to forget the need of our own body to continue living. Sometimes, due to the stress of us wanting to finish the task, we can forget that our body is needing to rest, eat, exercise, etc., which can result in illness. When we are busy with projects we can overlook the cause of the illness. We can completely forget that we have neglected our health due to our other material responsibility. Responsibilities to things other than ourselves can dominate, and our own health can therefore suffer, even though the 6th house has an interest in physical health as well.
6th house is very concrete as supposed to the 12th house which is extremely abstract. It is Earth bound, very practical, inner level.
Sophia shared this idea that it is something that our soul is longing for coming from the 5th house. It is the process of completing the 2nd quadrant, making sure that everything is functioning properly before moving into the next cycle. Everything in this 6th house is a soulful expression but it is also work. This work is very important to the person, it is not exteriorized. They want to see the process of doing the work.
David's input: The 6th house primarily but in clockwise direction the 6th house is the 7th house. David's theory is that the clockwise direction shows "What is this for me?" The 7th house is the pay off for the 6th house. After people who have many planets in the 6th house fixes something, it makes them happy that they have fulfilled what they want completed. They are happy to see other people enjoy their completed task. They are happy to do things that will help others. It is made as a concept for people to be aware of. They like to do it to set an example because they like everything to be done perfectly and exactly the way they want it. They are happy to be the representative of what they have accomplished.
Wholeness - a completion of inner situation of the person. People with very strong 6th house can be specialists. They fixed things such as machineries, plumbing, every little things that need fixing, likes working with things that require tedious details etc. Applying common sense is very normal to them.
6th house is considered a malefic house. Super bad! 6th, 8th, and 12th are bad in Vedic. They are dushtana houses.
6th house is disease, illness, trouble with health, they bring you down. In Vedic, the purpose is to get you out of the material world. Gina does not like this idea and made a comment about this. Everyone laughed!!
We also talked about the 8th a little: it is death - rebirth, death before the re-born process happens.
6th house also represents “Slaves”. In ancient Roman times and other historical periods, slavery was common. The slave was not necessarily being mistreated. They are, in fact, the ones taking care of the small details in the house and taking care of the children. They often enjoy their work. Of course slaves are also very often mistreated and obviously disrespected, but not always.
6th house according to Lee Lehman, is work.
6th house is also about small animals. We asked “Why?” One observation is that slaves took care of the small animals and small children and every little aspects to take care of.
Steven Forrest associates the 6th house as Aunts and Uncle and a relationship with mentor. Aunt and Uncle is an important relationship (the 3rd from the 4th,). The 3rd house is brothers and sisters and 4th house a parent, often the dominant pattern, and an aunt or uncle is the sibling of a parent. Aunts and Uncles are often very helpful in providing help to their nephews and nieces.
In ancient astrology, relationships in the houses are very important.
6th house relates to hands on healing. Melodye who has Mars and Chiron on the 6th is doing hands on healing. Gina has Moon on the 6th and Chiron on the 6th house cusp is doing the hands on healing. Fei who has a very strong 6th house is doing a hands on healing. Susan is also doing a hands on healing.
Saturn in the 6th in David's chart: he spends most of his time working - providing practical service in his work, which is appropriate for Saturn in the 6th.
We were not able to see a clear correlation of the 6th house with small animals. We observed that for some people pets are extremely important and for others they are unimportant but finding this attitude in the chart in terms of the 6th house does not appear to be straightforward.
Gary has Mars and Jupiter in the 6th and he moves forward in his work very nicely.
